The NICEIC and ELECSA are asking electrical contractors to have their say on the 18th edition of the wiring regulations

All electrical contractors are being urged to contribute to a public consultation on the proposed changes to the 18th edition of the wiring regulations.

The document, which is due out in July 2018, will set a new standard for all electrical installation work carried out nationally.

The 18th edition of the BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations will now be available for electrical contractors to have their say as well as view the proposed changes after the British Standards Institute (BSI) launched a Draft for Public Comment (DPC).

Industry comments will be taken into account

Comments will be collated until the 23 August 2017, with experts urged to provide insight before then.

Alan Wells, Technical Standards Director at Certsure (operator of NICEIC and ELECSA) said: “An important stage in the development of any Standard is the DPC period.“It is essential that anyone who feels that they have something to contribute to the draft BS 7671 standard make full use the public comment period to comment on its provisions.

“All comments of the public, industry and other related parties are considered in detail by the Technical Committee and, if necessary, further drafting is undertaken.”
