Measures to improve energy efficiency at Bristol’s harbourside museum will make savings of £50k a year…
A solar array on the rooftop of Bristol’s harbourside museum M-Shed will boost energy efficiency and lower the cost of its bills.
The museum will install 181 solar panels, which will generate around 10 per cent of the building’s energy requirements.
The museum will also upgrade the windows to allow natural ventilation, temperature and humidity. Carbon dioxide sensors will be installed and linked to a management system to allow more control.
The energy efficiency improvements are expected to save around £50,000 per year on bills.
Mayor of Bristol George Ferguson said: “We have installed more than 300KW on our own property with more than 1,500KW in the pipeline by the end of 2016 and much greater scope remaining across the city.”
Bristol has a history of pushing its green agenda and was crowned the 2015 European Green Capital.
The energy efficiency building sector was dealt a significant blow recently after the government cancelled subsidies for solar projects, and withdrew support for zero carbon homes. The decision left many wondering about the government’s commitment to creating a greener UK.
