MJ Allen Holdings Limited, based in Kent, has been fined for unsafe work practices.

The case was brought before Canterbury Crown Court after a worker slipped and almost fell through the fragile roof of the company workshop.

The incident, which occurred on 19 September 2014, was investigated by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

It was discerned that the MJ Allen Holdings failed to provide suitable equipment for working at height. Additionally, employees had not been trained to work at height.

The firm pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 6(3) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005, and was fined £160,000 and ordered to pay costs of £5,767.

After the hearing, HSE inspector Guy Widdowson said: “This incident had the potential to cause significant, life threatening injuries to the employee who was affected.”
