A man has fallen from a ladder in the second accident to occur within a 48 hour period at a Persimmon Homes building site in Scotland…

A Persimmon Homes development has reported a second accident occurred within a 48 hour period.

The building site, located in Kelty, Fife, was the scene of an accident in early February, during which time a 42-year-old man was taken to hospital for arm and back injuries. Some 48 hours later another man received medical care after falling from a ladder. The man’s injuries were not life-threatening and he was discharged the same day.

Speaking to Dunfermline Press, a Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed: “An ambulance crew responded in six minutes to an incident involving a man who had fallen from a ladder.

“A patient was transferred to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.”

The first accident occurred on 1 February, when high winds from Storm Henry were sweeping across the region. The worker was struck by building materials, which injured his back and arm. Fire crews had to rescue the man from a ditch dug for the foundations of a new home.

The second incident on 3 February saw a stairway leading up to an office collapse.

Persimmon Homes North Scotland managing director Iain Innes said: “We strive to ensure that strict health and safety procedures and practices are in place at all of our sites to ensure the safety of our workers, contractors and authorised visitors.

“Our site security is always installed and maintained to restrict unauthorised access.

“The two workplace incidents that took place at our Kelty development this week are unrelated but, as is our normal procedure, we have launched a full internal investigation.”

A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive said: “HSE has not received any RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations) reports for the incidents mentioned but that does not mean to say we will not receive them.

“However, companies have 10 days to submit a report and, depending on circumstances, only if the injured party is off work as a result of the injuries for more than seven days.”
