A construction site in Stafford was the scene of an accident after a worker was injured by a digger. According to the local media, the employee sustained “very serious crush injuries” and was airlifted to the hospital for treatment.

The incident reportedly involved a large tracked excavator. The patient was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

A rapid response vehicle, an ambulance, a paramedic area support officer, and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford with the MERIT trauma doctor were sent to site on Corporation Street yesterday afternoon.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, the man was found to have significant injuries on his right side.

“He had his leg splinted and a pelvic binder put in place before he was airlifted to the major trauma centre at Royal Stoke University Hospital.”
