Actis Insulation has expanded its specification team with the appointment of an architectural technician to help architects, merchants, builders and building control officers in the South West, the West Midlands and South Wales

Elijah Peters, who has an MSc in architecture and design technology, has been appointed as the new architectural technician to demonstrate the benefits of Actis products to end users, focusing on helping architects, timber framers, loft converters and housing developers.

Elijah’s previous roles include working as a CAD designer and project manager at an architectural practice in the home counties and a project management specialist in the Midlands.

Elijah is passionate about Actis’ sustainability credentials

“My vision for Actis is for growth. A company that is big on sustainability, eco-friendly, and cost effective, it’s only a matter of time before the name Actis hits global ears,” he said.

“Actis shares my core values, which cemented my decision to join the company. And my academic background puts me in a prime position to support my fellow colleagues.”

Actis’ CPDs are the source of vital information for helping the construction industry head towards net zero

Elijah will join fellow specification managers Amaret Chahal and Jason Docherty in presenting Actis’ popular range of CPDs, two of which are RIBA-approved, to building control firms, architectural practices and at LABC’s monthly roadshows.

Actis’ RIBA-approved Part L CPD module details ways to improve U-values, reduce thermal bridging, address the performance gap and improve air tightness. And to ensure these changes don’t create a problem in the other direction, it looks at how to ensure there are no issues with overheating.

The CPD was recently praised by industry professionals. CAD technician Nick Fisher from EK Architects in Pattiswick, Essex, whose team were among the first to book the CPD praised the excellence of the content and presentation, which gives guidance on how to meet revised energy efficiency targets which see new build homes having to reduce carbon emissions by 31% over previous levels.

He said: “The guys were super impressed with the presentation. It’s nice to have a CPD that has answers. We will certainly be using Actis products going forward, so thank you for enlightening us. You will be bombarded with requests for calculations!”

Amaret Chahal, recently used her love of the Great British Bake Off to illustrate different approaches to achieving compliance, she commented: “We wanted to illustrate the different targets we can achieve through having a recipe approach. If a cupcake was a house, the limiting value is the minimum thermal value which must be achieved. This is represented by a vanilla cupcake. The notional value, an ideal but more difficult to achieve thermal rating, is more like the top of the range cupcake with coloured icing, sprinkles and perhaps some mini marshmallows scattered on top.

“Just as we have a wide variety of cupcakes made from different ingredients, so can houses be built with different specifications to meet requirements within the given range of targets.”

Actis UK and Ireland sales director Mark Cooper added: “As the popularity of Actis products grows, so does our team. Our technical support and specification expertise are very much sought after and our CPDs are the source of really important information which is vital for helping the construction industry head towards net zero.

“So expanding the team which helps educate the current and next generation of construction industry professionals is a natural step to help us all work together to build more sustainably.”
