The latest appointments in construction include leading roles at CBI, Glencar and Rund. Plus Orbit Group’s chief executive has announced that he is stepping down

In the same week that Liz Truss was named the UK’s new prime minister, the latest appointments in construction have come flooding in, alongside the announcement that Mark Hoyland, Orbit Group chief executive, is to step down.

Orbit Group chief executive steps down

Orbit Group has announced that its chief executive, Mark Hoyland, will step down in spring 2023, after six years of leading the Group.

Commenting on his decision to step down, Mark Hoyland, group chief executive, said: “I am proud of Orbit’s achievements. We have built a financially strong business and a robust and resilient operation, and I would like to thank the Board and Executive Team for their support and commitment to our vision.”

“I am confident that Orbit will continue to go from strength to strength as a result of its people and values-led performance-driven culture. I’ve been privileged to lead such a great group of talented people at Orbit, and I’d like to thank the whole team for their hard work and dedication to our mission to lead in building thriving communities.”

The Board expects to announce a successor early next year.

Rund appoints new director of building surveying

Rund, a specialist surveying and construction consultancy, has appointed Paul Shilling as the new director of building surveying, to spearhead its projects and building surveying division.

Paul Shilling, director of building surveying, Rund, commented on his appointment and said: “I’m excited to have joined Rund as a director to enhance its dedicated building surveying team. My experience and knowledge will put me in good stead to head up the building surveying division, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to deliver an exceptional service to our clients.”

Glencar appoints new operations director

Glencar, a leading UK construction company that was recently ranked amongst Europe’s fastest-growing businesses, has announced the appointment of Mark Green as its new operations director.

Green will join the Midland office after 21 years of service with Construction Services Company ISG.

Talking about his appointment Mark Green said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to have this opportunity with Glencar and very happy to be joining during a time of such rapid growth and regional expansion with many exciting projects under construction across the Midlands and in the pipeline.

New CBI London council chair announced

CBI has appointed Peter Hogg as the new London council chair, succeeding Judith Everett.

Hogg is a partner at leading design and consultancy firm Arcadis, as well as
a Chartered Building Surveyor by profession and a passionate urbanist.

In his role as chair of the CBI’s London council he has committed to showcasing London as an ‘inclusive, prosperous and welcoming’ which is essential to the capital’s continued success as a world-leading economic powerhouse.

Anneka Hendrick, CBI London director, said: “I am delighted to welcome Peter to the role of London Council Chair, and would also like to place on record my thanks to Judith for her huge contribution during the challenges of the past two years.

“Peter brings a wealth of London knowledge and insight into the issues that matter to the capital’s businesses.
