Sam Dibaj, a project manager in Galliford Try’s Environment business unit, has been appointed to the CIOB Board of Trustees

This three-year tenure on the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) board of trustees will allow Dibaj the necessary time to influence the industry on the most pressing issues.  He will then be able to drive forward the development of the Corporate Plan.

Dibaj has been at the heart of recent changes at the CIOB, involved at both a local and regional level. He is now presented with the once in a lifetime opportunity: a member of the CIOB board of trustees. In this position, Dibaj will be able to really influence the future of the Institute.

The CIOB board of trustees are legally responsible for the management of the Institute. They must ensure that finances are sound, and that every aspect of business is carried out in accordance with the regulations relating to Charities and the Royal Charter.

Dibaj has extensive experience in a variety of roles

Dibaj is also a member of the CIOB Non-Chartered Grade Working Group and has held previous positions on the CIOB Member Engagement Committee, Education, Qualification, Standards and Practice Board and past chair of the European CIOB Hub Committee.

He also achieved a fellowship of the CIOB at the age of 32, worked on the Entry Grade Value Proposition Plan and Mentoring Group and is a chartered environmentalist.

It all began in 2008 when Dibaj started as a site engineer. He explains the importance of being passionate about the industry he works in – as a manager and leader – but also when sharing his knowledge by delivering presentations and talking to students and prospective future entrants into the industry.

‘My commitment to the institute will be to champion the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion strategy’

Dibaj commented:

“It has been a privilege to serve my local hub and community where my long-standing relationships with educational institutions will continue. My commitment to the institute will be to champion the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion strategy and harvest the opportunities this will bring to support a more open industry.

“My focus will be on ensuring that we have a sustainable industry, equal and more diverse, with the necessary skills – digital skills, net zero skills and traditional skills, required to prosper.”

Managing director of the environment business unit, Steve Slessor, said:

“Sam will make an excellent Trustee having held various positions in the CIOB and this appointment is a measure of Sam’s professionalism, integrity and respect. Having been involved in the Institute for a long time myself, I know Sam is well placed to uphold the tenets of the Institute and provide encouragement and guidance to his fellow Trustees.”
