The search for the UK’s most inspiring young surveyors – those who have played a vital role within the built environment – is to kick start with the annual RICS Matrics Young Surveyor of the Year Awards (YSOYA)

The Young Surveyor of the Year Awards celebrates the broad range of talented young surveyors, trainees and apprentices aged 35 and under, that are serving to improve and advance local communities. They also recognise the influential future leaders of the surveying profession.

What do the categories look like this year?

The nine award categories cover a variety of surveying disciplines, including Asset and Facilities Management, Project Management and Quantity Surveying. There’s also an ‘Apprentice of the Year’ accolade to celebrate the growing numbers of future talent coming into the industry through the apprenticeship route.

The ‘RICS Matrics UK Young Surveyor of the Year’ title is awarded to the professional who has not only achieved great success in their respective role and sector, but who also exhibits an unwavering commitment to improving the industry and the wider profession.

Who makes up the 2018 judging panel?

Anna Keys, Chair of the RICS UK Matrics Board – a networking and support group for young surveyors – is leading this year’s judging panel.

The judging panel will once again be looking for surveying ambassadors who are not only surpassing their roles, but also giving something back to the profession, whether that be through mentoring others or getting involved in careers events to inspire the next generation. This year is also the 150th anniversary of RICS, so there’s never been a better time for surveying firms – however large or small – to showcase the achievements of their young professionals.

As the categories cover all disciplines, the shortlisted individuals and the winners of these awards will help demonstrate the wide variety of opportunities and exciting roles there are in the industry, which in turn will inspire future talent to consider a role in the built environment.

How to enter

Entries to the RICS Matrics YSOYA are welcomed from individuals themselves – including surveying apprentices, trainees, and associate RICS members – or from colleagues or employers. Nominate or enter the awards at www.rics.org/ysoya. The closing date to enter is 6 July and the winners will be announced at a black-tie ceremony held in London in November.
