Gammon, the 50:50 Balfour Beatty joint venture, will deliver the construction phase of a ten-storey office building after completing foundation and excavation work

The Cyberport construction project will see Gammon deliver a ten-storey building with office space, a data services platform, a multi-functional hall and ancillary facilities. Improvements will also be made to the nearby waterfront park.

Worth HK$3.7 bn (c. £378m), the contract was awarded by the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited.Main construction works will commence later this year, with completion expected by 2025.

At construction peak, the project workforce will number more than 1,000 people.

MMC techniques will be used to minimise local disruption

Fabrication of 70% of the MEP and certain building elements will take place at Gammon’s dedicated factory. This allows Gammon to supply high quality modules with swift installation, minimising local disturbance of the existing Cyberport residents.

A suite of digital solutions will also be employed, such as the company’s self-developed digital platform, GTwin, which will allow the team to monitor work progress, streamline workflows, and collect data from various sources for timely analysis to support improved and faster decision making.

The company will rely on its in-house capabilities for delivery of the structural steel, electrical and mechanical and façade elements of the contract.

The project team will also support the achievement of a BEAM Plus Platinum rating, underpinning the focus on sustainability development.

The continuation of Gammon’s Cyberport construction contract will ensure a more cohesive project delivery

Kevin O’Brien, Gammon chief executive said: “We are delighted that Cyberport has once again selected Gammon to work with them on this expansion project. The contract follows on from our design and construction of the foundation and excavation works, and this latest award will see us deliver a complete end-to-end construction partnership.

“We look forward to participating in this important initiative which seeks to attract more quality innovation and technology companies and start-ups to establish their businesses at Cyberport.”
