Neil Martin will replace Paul Hamer as chief executive at Sir Robert McAlpine, having most recently filled the same role at Lendlease Europe

Becoming chief executive at Sir Robert McAlpine as of 9:00am on Monday 19th February, Neil Martin said: “Sir Robert McAlpine is one of the most respected businesses in the sector. Its reputation for building excellence and enviable 155-year history sets it apart from others.

“It is an absolute honour to become chief executive of a company that has worked on some of the country’s most iconic landmarks. I am excited to join the team and look forward to what the business can and will achieve over the coming years.”

“Bringing essential skills and experience”

Neil Martin had been with his previous firm, Lendlease Europe, in various positions since the early 1990s with the company’s predecessor Bovis.

McAlpine chair Ed McAlpine said: “Neil brings the essential skills and experience required to lead our business, with a clear focus on project selection and excellence in delivery.

“As well as welcoming Neil, we wholeheartedly thank outgoing chief executive, Paul Hamer, for his leadership and work over the last seven years to well position the business for the future.”

Previous chief executive Paul Hamer joined Sir Robert McAlpine in 2017

Joining the company from consulting engieer White Young Green, Hamer oversaw a shift in McAlpine’s structure from focusing on sectors rather than regions, with a specific focus on securing infrastructure work. Part of these plans involved reducing the workforce by 2.5%, but yielded a 2% increase of pre-tax profit to £9.3m.
