Figures released by Eurostat show construction output across the Eurozone declined in September…

Recovery in the construction sector has struggled to gain ground within the Eurozone. Data has revealed after nearly a decade of decline the industry is still finding it difficult to maintain good levels of output.

According to figures from European statistics organisation Eurostat, output across the Eurozone dropped 0.4 per cent in September when compared to the previous period.

Additionally, while figures were up 1.8 per cent on figures seen in September 2014, recovery is still slow as this number is around 20 per cent below pre-recession levels.

Data showed an increase in civil engineering of 0.3 per cent during August. However, building construction fell by 0.6 per cent.

The statistics revealed the strongest recoveries in the Eurozone were seen in Slovakia and the Netherlands. Both areas saw significant growth of 26 and 10.2 per cent, respectively.

On the flipside of the coin Portugal and Slovenia saw the worst growth rates at minus 3.2 and 12.5 per cent, respectively.

The news construction is performing poorly will perhaps come as something of a surprise as the rest of the Eurozone economy saw growth of 0.3 per cent in the three months to September.
