Newcomer of the Year

Steve joined HBC in August 2021 as an Apprentice Building Control surveyor, having previously run his own carpentry and joinery business. Enabled by his positive attitude and tenacity, Steve has since been promoted to Assistant Building Control Surveyor and is currently two years into a building control surveying degree.

Steve has made a remarkable transition to his new profession, showing passion, commercial awareness, and a focus on compliance.

He brings a fun and professional approach to his work, always remaining positive and staying motivated by finding solutions, developing himself and others and offering clients an outstanding service.

Throughout her long career spanning 35 years, Nicola has gained a wealth of building control knowledge and recognises the need to keep up to date with industry developments.

Best New Small Residential Development

HBC which checks new buildings are designed and constructed safely and are in line with environmental standards, was jointly awarded ‘Best Small Volume New Housing Development’ with local architect’s firm Anthony Jane Architects & Interiors and Lee & Sibley Building Contractors.

Set in the small village of Braughing, Hertfordshire, the Chestnuts project consists of four meticulously crafted properties situated within the idyllic garden of the clients’ Grade II listed traditional Georgian house.

Executed to a very high standard, the project seamlessly integrates cutting-edge technology, ensuring it exists harmoniously with the original Georgian residence, transforming it into a ‘smart’ house with minimal operational expenses.

Hertfordshire Building Control have demonstrated their extensive knowledge and responsiveness throughout the Chestnuts project. The building control surveyors played a pivotal role within both the design and site teams bringing extensive knowledge of all building types and materials to maintain a successful outcome.
