Construction works are underway on a substantial new housing development north of the historic city of Ely, with local business Mick George Ltd completing Earthworks on behalf of Ely North Consortium LLP.

Set within 200 acres of East Cambridgeshire, and perfectly situated within walking distance of Ely’s city spires, unspoilt countryside and vibrant lifestyle, Orchards Green is an exciting new development connecting contemporary living with key travel links and excellent facilities for a thriving community.

As part of the comprehensive plan to provide new homes of mixed size and tenure through phased delivery over the following five years, Orchards Green aims to meet housing needs for a mix of individuals, couples, homeworkers and families at all life stages, through private housing and affordable homes.

Planning permission for the development was originally granted back in June 2015 and with works’ now in-running, the initial phase of 199 properties are anticipated to be available for sale during summer 2018.

In its entirety, the scheme will include; 1200 homes, 11 green spaces, a primary school, care home, sports facilities and a community centre. With community at its heart, the new Orchards Green living environment will also have its own allotments, extensive parkland areas, playgrounds, cricket green, community shop and local pub’.

Michael George, Contracts Director at Mick George Ltd commented: ‘We are currently completing Earthworks on a wide-variety of development types in and around Cambridgeshire, which is a reflection of the counties thriving business environment at present. Naturally that means visitor and resident numbers are likely to increase, hence the number of new housing developments that are popping up throughout the City and surrounding areas.’’
