Reading residents to have say on local plan

Reading Borough Council is asking residents to give their views on the development of the area…

Residents living in Reading will have the opportunity to have their say over the development and protection of local sites.

The new local plan will replace the current development plan, ‘The core strategy: Reading Central area action plan and sites and detailed policies’, and will cover the period spanning until 2036.

Local plans are mandatory for all local authorities following changes to planning policy. These plans will be used to shape the future development of towns and cities across the country.

The consultation document ‘Issues and Options’ puts forward a discussion of what should be included in the local plan and what the strategy should be going forward. This document is a discussion paper, not a draft plan, but contains key questions such as the number of homes that should be built each year and a list of sites for potential development.

The borough council is now seeking feedback from residents to ensure local views are considered before the planning document is finalised.

The consultation will run until 7 March 2016. During this period, residents are invited to send their views to the planning policy team. Additionally, a number of consultation events will also be held during February to consider the pertinent questions relating to Reading’s future.

Three interactive workshops will take place throughout February:

Tilehurst Village Hall, Victoria Road, RG31 5AB – Thursday 4th February 7.30pm to 9.30pm

Church House, 59 Church Street, Caversham, RG4 8AX – Tuesday 16th February 7pm to 9pm

Civic Offices, Bridge Street, RG1 2LU (Committee Room 4a/4b) – Wednesday 24th February, 7pm to 9pm

Additionally, drop-in events will also be held at the following locations:

Civic Offices, Bridge Street, RG1 2LU (main reception) – Monday 15th February, 2pm to 7pm and Tuesday 16th February, 1pm to 6pm

St Paul’s Church Hall, Whitley Wood Lane, RG2 8PN – Friday 19th February, 2pm to 6.30pm
