New figures have revealed the number of new homes built is at the highest levels since 2008 to 2009…
The number of new built homes has continued to increase, reaching the highest levels since 2008 to 2009. The statistics were collected from building control officers at local authorities, the National House Building Council, and independent inspectors.
According to the figures, some 139,690 new homes were completed in the year to March. This represented a 12 per cent increase on the year before. Furthermore, the number of new homes started reached its highest level since 2007 to 2008.
The data also revealed some 139,680 homes were started in 2015 to 2016, showing an upward trend in the number of starts and completions over the past two years.
Commenting, Housing and Planning Minister Brandon Lewis said: “We’ve got the country building again and are seeing our housebuilding efforts paying-off with this considerable increase in the number of homes built in just 1 year.
“This is real progress but there is more to do. That’s why we are going further and increasing our investment in housebuilding to ensure many more hard-working people can benefit.
Growth across the nation
Regional growth in areas such as Wakefield and London was strong, with both areas experiencing high levels of completions.
In London, some 32 per cent more homes were built in 2015 to 2016 than the previous year. Basildon and Haringey saw the number of completion reach a massive 279 per cent and 1,039 per cent growth respectively during the same period.
Wakefield saw a growth of 59 per cent, with completions growing from 1,028 to 1,634.
