The Tyne and Wear passenger transport executive has appointed Turner & Townsend to provide project control services for three major transport programmes across the UK, on services across Metro Futures, Metro Flow, and Infrastructure programmes

The three major transport projects include:

Metro Futures is a major £500m transport project, which aims to modernise the busiest and most frequent light rail network outside of London, helping to deliver long-term social and economic benefits for the Northeast of England.

The Metro Flow project is a £100m track dualling scheme based in South Tyneside to further enhance Metro services and boost capacity, with goals to provide an extra 24,000 customer journeys every day.

The capital delivery programme will upgrade and renew current infrastructure within the Nexus Service including the Tyne Dock in South Shields, Ferry Landings in North Shields, Tanners Bank in North Shields, and Christon Road in Gosforth.

‘Boosting social and economic growth’

Graeme Braithwaite, director at Turner & Townsend, said: “The major programmes will be transformative to the public transport network and can boost economic growth and deliver long lasting social outcomes for the North East.

“We are proud to play our part in their delivery and this contract award is testament to our longstanding partnership with Nexus.”
