Laing O’Rourke has revealed 11 mobile cranes will be sold from its Select Plant arm to Ainscough Crane Hire

Eleven mobile cranes will transfer to Ainscough Crane Hire, it has emerged. The deal between Laing O’Rourke’s Select Plant Hire arm will also see some 15 members of staff move at the end of the month.

The contractor was quick to assure that this selloff did not represent wider plans to get rid of its Select Plant Hire business and said it planned to invest in key parts of the fleet, meeting demands.

Efficiency and productivity

A Laing O’Rourke spokesperson said: “As part of the group’s best practice we are continuously looking at improvements that we can make in the efficiency and productivity of our operations.

“Having assessed our mobile crane assets, we believe that the operational support of an external partner in this area will strengthen our offer.

“We have agreed to sell our mobile fleet to Ainscough Crane Hire, which currently meets 75 per cent of our mobile crane requirements, and we will continue to work with them on an ongoing basis.”

He added: “We will continue to invest in the aspects of our Select Plant fleet required to meet the challenges of the complex projects Laing O’Rourke is delivering.”

The transfer is expected to complete by the end of the month, and Ainscough Crane Hire said Select Plant have already begun the process of consultation with the relevant employees set to make the move.
