Scottish civils contractor Global Infrastructure has won a multi-million pound SSEN Transmission contract to construct warehouse facilities in Dundee and Inverness

The SSEN Transmission contract covers two strategic storage warehouses in Dundee and Inverness, both 7500m2.

The deal continues SSEN Transmission’s long-standing relationship with Beauly-based civil engineering contractor Global Infrastructure.

Both warehouses are due to be completed by the first quarter of 2025

Work has already commenced at the Inverness Airport Business Park (IABP) site, where a temporary compound will be constructed.

James Campbell, chair of IABP, said that they were “very pleased to welcome SSEN Transmission to Inverness Airport Business Park and are equally pleased to welcome Global Infrastructure back having worked very successfully with them before.

“SSEN Transmission’s facility is a very significant development for the business park and the Inverness economy and illustrates the benefits for the area of investment in the infrastructure that will be needed to achieve net zero goals.”

The other half of the SSEN Transmissions contract, a strategic warehouse at the Claverhouse East Industrial Estate, Dundee, will begin works in January 2024.

Both the Inverness and Dundee sites will facilitate the continued expansion and maintenance of Scotland’s electricity network.

Delivering energy efficiency nationally as well as onsite

Commenting on the awarding of the contract, Global Infrastructure managing director, David MacDonald, said that the developments would incorporate electric vehicle charging points and photovoltaic (PV) panel installations, as well as “heavy lifting facilities, bunded areas for oil filled plant, bespoke storage areas, office and welfare areas for staff.”

“We are delighted to have been awarded these key contracts by long standing client, SSEN Transmission,” he continued. “The new strategic warehouse facilities which we will deliver in early 2025 will be vital to the build out and maintenance of the electricity network as part of the Government’s drive to net zero.
