The UCL Bartlett School of Construction and Project Management has launched a new MSc in Digital Engineering Management to equip students with a greater understanding of digital engineering

From autumn 2020, this new MSc in Digital Engineering Management will begin training the next generation of decision-makers in the built environment, providing them with an understanding of digital innovation through an engineering management lens.

An industry need

The MSc in Digital Engineering Management responds to an industry need for greater understanding and analysis for how these pioneering digital technologies shape and are shaped by organisations, projects and supply chains in construction.

This course will equip students with an advanced understanding of how digitalisation influences the management of engineering, particularly in the built environment, building upon the premise that technology is a socio-technical construct.

The MSc in Digital Engineering Management course has three main aims:

  • To provide an understanding of engineering management through a socio-technical lens and with regards to digitalisation in both theoretical and applied aspects
  • To develop critical thinking and research spirit in decision-making and problem-solving in the context of construction projects
  • To equip students with the range of analytical tools, digital skills and transferable skills required for a career in the built environment.

A fresh look at digitalisation in the built environment

Programme leader, Dr Eleni Papadonikolaki, said: “Prospective students will benefit from a fresh look at digitalisation in the built environment, looking beyond teaching software tools, into a grounded and comprehensive curriculum developed from translating the School’s world-leading research, and through collaboration with industry partners.”

The MSc DEM course will provide its participants with the tools to address the challenges of a continuously evolving digital landscape within an engineering management framework. The course will teach both the basics of these innovative digital technologies at a skills level, as well as their managerial implications at a grounded level in collaboration with industry partners.

Applications are now open for students joining in autumn 2020.

What is digital engineering?
