The hunt for ‘The Construction Story of the Year 2023’ is on, with the Nemetschek Group and The B1M on the lookout for projects at the pinnacle of innovation

Global software provider for AEC/O and media industries, the Nemetschek Group, have teamed up with renowned industry video channel The B1M to find the “The Construction Story of the Year 2023”.

Open to both initiatives and individuals, the awards seek to recognise exceptional projects and ideas that showcase innovation in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) sectors over the past year.

From hospitals that can be built and put to use in just five days, to an innovative new machine in Nairobi that makes bricks from recycled plastic, and an international consortium constructing a massive nuclear fusion reactor, the bandwidth of innovative construction projects and concepts worldwide is expansive- and all have a chance to win.

The panel of judges includes:

  • Engineer and TV presenter Yewande Akinola MBE
  • Jacqui Glass, professor at The Bartlett’s school of architecture and engineering
  • Hanna Rutanen from KONE
  • Fred Mills, MD and founder of The B1M, which has over 24m views each month
  • Matt Wheelis, SVP of Strategy Build & Construct Division of the Nemetschek Group

“Traditionally, construction hasn’t been very good at shouting about itself,” Fred Mills, founder and MD of The B1M, explained. “Most people don’t realize the amazing work that this industry does or take it for granted. We want to change that by putting the most impressive AEC story from the past year right in front of them, in a compelling and accessible format, on the digital platforms they use every day.”

“We have the ability to shape the future of our built world – the power is in our hands to decide what that will look like, for our kids’ kids and their kids,” said Matt Wheelis, SVP of Strategy, Build & Construct Division at Nemetschek Group. “We need more people to see the vision of what the construction industry is capable of – how it can impact our daily lives and those in our future. It is a great responsibility and a privilege to help shape and inspire that.”
