Innovative construction: Takeaways from Viewpoint’s EMEA Summit

828

From industry-leading best practices, innovative customer success stories, and the latest construction technologies, it was a jam-packed couple of afternoons of learning opportunities at Viewpoint’s EMEA Summit, says Tamara Higham, marketing executive at Viewpoint

Industry thought leaders, customers, product experts, and inspirational speakers shared their knowledge and experiences during the summit. Moreover, client success was celebrated at Trimble Viewpoint EMEA Construction Awards.

The four top takeaways from the summit:

  1. Using APIs with Field View: Customer knowledge sharing session

David Thornhill from Wates Group discussed how his company is currently using Trimble Viewpoint’s Field View, our tablet-based mobile field management solution. He taught himself how to create specialized APIs in order to gain even more data power from Field View and shared some handy tips for fellow Field View customers who wish to get started with APIs themselves.

His presentation informed users on how to screenshot for useful coding that they could add to their own Field View application. Thornhill’s session showcased how Viewpoint’s customers are constantly evolving and changing the way that Field View can be used through their experience and need in the field.

  1. The connected construction vision, realised

Jon Fingland, vice president and general manager for construction solutions at Trimble, shared our “Connected Construction” vision, and how Trimble Construction solutions are already helping the construction industry.

You may already know that Viewpoint is part of the Trimble family, but you might not know what that looks like from a complete technology perspective, and the connected process and workflow opportunities your company can start taking advantage of.

Fingland’s session gives a rich understanding of the Trimble technology ecosystem, how the connected construction vision applies to different products, and what’s in store for the near- and long-term future.

  1. Change management: A viewpoint for projects customer success story

Engie/EQUANS is one of the many contractor success stories of the Viewpoint For Projects solution.

Marc Pickering, digital construction manager of Engie/EQUANS, walked the audience through Engie’s technology transformation journey from what persuaded his company to begin looking for software all the way to how it is utilising Viewpoint For Projects (VFP) today.

Pickering also covered the important topic of onboarding staff when purchasing new software and why change management was crucial in this. A real-world example of how our customers have found solutions to common construction challenges through using our products.

  1. Trimble Viewpoint EMEA Construction awards winners

The Viewpoint EMEA Summit saw the announcement of our first ever EMEA Construction Awards winners.

The winners of the most innovative use of viewpoint for projects (VFP) were The Highland Council, who connected Viewpoint For Projects (VFP) with Holobuilder, which allowed facilities staff and external contractors on-site to ‘walk’ around the build of a new high school in Alness, in the north of Scotland.

The winners of the most innovative use of Field View on a project were Kane Group, who utilised Field View to design, prefabricate and install the energy centre for the prestigious Claridge’s Hotel in London. Due to its magnitude, the project earned the name ‘Britain’s Biggest Iceberg Basement.’
