360° video

If you’ve ever wondered how a Site  shoot is carried out on a construction site, this article explores how Dreamscope TV has designed a real-world motion experience to change the way construction projects work

To create a real-world motion experience, first, Dreamscope has designed a bespoke camera buggy that is smooth enough to start and stop without jerking, with enough torque to hold a consistent motion, whilst holding a 360° camera at eye-level mounted on a specially built 360° compatible gimbal.

Dreamscope’s buggies were built with this one purpose in mind. They even replaced the Lithium batteries with Nickel so they could tour the world with them.

What is the process of creating a 360° video on a construction site?

Dreamscope assembles the cameras and buggies at your site and, whilst hiding from view (because this is 360° video – no hiding places), drives them along every pathway/room/floor you want to show off.

Once Dreamscope is happy that they have captured everything, they replicate the process with static 360° cameras placed in specific locations to create a ‘dolls house’ model of your build – a model that you can truly ‘walk’ around and explore.

Back in Dreamscope’s edit studios, visual experiences are created. First will be the full 360° walk-through, or parts of it, depending on your exact requirements.

Highlights are then taken, and ‘flattened’ so that the 360° experience can be replicated on a flat screen (for you to use in places where 360° video isn’t the best option).

Finally, the static images are taken from the second part of the shoot to build a virtual model.

Changing construction processes with virtual models

Something that has always amazed clients is the fact that when you’re virtually inside this dolls house model, you can actually measure doorframes, floor sizes, timbers, and cables… in fact you can measure and assess whatever you need – even if you’re on the other side of the world.

It’s quite incredible and will truly change the way your construction processes work for the better.
