Builders working on a 6,700 sq ft barrel-roofed house in the Cotswolds say the Actis Hybrid insulation products they installed in it are ‘the best thing since sliced bread’

The enormous home, which replaces a steel frame building on agricultural land near Burford, is being created by SIPs specialist Point 1 Building Systems.

The company’s focus on creating thermally superior properties has also secured it a spot on TV’s Grand Designs. A project currently underway just a stone’s throw from its Actis-insulated creation is due to feature in a forthcoming series.

Point 1 Building Systems director Garry Dyke specified two Actis Hybrid insulation products in the Burford home – 170mm honeycomb insulation Hybris and insulating breather membrane Boost R Hybrid – with his shopping basket containing around 240 sq m of each.

‘A flexible product’

“The building is like a Dutch barn with an extension on the side. There are two parts to the roof. On the lower level is a traditional SIP roof and above it [is] a barrel roof with glulam beams. As this one is curved, we needed a flexible product,” he explained.

Working with Actis area sales manager Gemma Slatcher he devised a build-up which would see the roof achieve a U-value of 0.14.

“The guys who fitted it absolutely loved it. They said it was the best thing since sliced bread. In fact, I’m now quoting for another timber frame using Actis products,” he said.
