A ‘Keeping safe in your neighbourhood’ publication is available as part of a package for volunteers across the UK as they welcome refugees and help them settle and integrate once they arrive

This publication has been jointly developed by the Community Sponsorship Team at the Home Office and Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (Police CPI) and gives tips and advice about how refugees can keep themselves, their homes and their belongings safe.

The publication is one of a number provided by the charity Reset as part of a welcome pack, designed to be shared with the refugees supported through community sponsorship upon their arrival in the community and supplementing the ‘Welcome to the UK’ booklet that is provided during the arrival process.

The ‘Keeping safe in your neighbourhood’ publication is available to download for free in both English and Arabic.

Michael Brooke, Deputy Chief Operating Officer at Police Crime Prevention Initiatives, said: “We were delighted to provide assistance to help the Home Office and Reset with the Community Sponsorship process. The guide is not designed to be an exhaustive guide, but it does cover a broad range of subjects and contains up-to-date crime prevention advice to assist as displaced families settle into life in the UK.”

They also work with local authorities and other organisations to support volunteers in making community-led welcomes happen.

Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (Police CPI) & Secured by Design (SBD)

Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (Police CPI) is a police-owned organisation that delivers a wide range of innovative and ground-breaking crime prevention and demand reduction initiatives to support the UK Police Service, Government and the general public.

Police CPI acts as a catalyst to bring public and private sector organisations together to reduce crime and the fear of crime and create safer communities.

Secured by Design (SBD) is one of the Police CPI initiatives. Since it was launched SBD has built up a wealth of experience promoting crime prevention and security through active involvement in local communities – constantly adapting the advice to keep pace with changing patterns of criminal behaviour.

Police CPI maintains close working links with the National Police Chiefs’ Council National Leads, central government, manufacturers and companies involved in security products (within the UK and those in countries that supply the UK), standards authorities and key stakeholders such as Planners, Architects, Developers, Local Authorities, Housing Associations, academia and the public.

Police CPI is a not-for-profit police-owned organisation, self-funded through its prevention activities.

Senior police officers from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland control and direct the work Police CPI carries out on behalf of the Police Service.
