Mariana Gonzalez has been appointed by Galliford Try as the new head of Process Solutions – a key area of Galliford Try’s Sustainable Growth Strategy– to lead on asset optimisation

Gonzalez, who joined the business as part of the nmcn water acquisition last year, started her career as a Chemical Engineer in the oil industry, before moving into the water sector with Thames Water and United Utilities, and successfully completing a PhD in Anaerobic Digestion of Sewage Sludge at the University of Surrey. The wide scope of her experience means she will be well equipped to lead Galliford Try’s interests in asset optimisation.

She has significant experience in all process areas of the water industry, including water, wastewater, and sludge treatment.

During her career, she has had the opportunity to work in different sectors of the industry including the water utilities, consultancy services and construction, giving her a holistic understanding of the needs and challenges facing the sector.

Gonzalez’s new role will involve thorough assessment and development of the water sector

Gonzalez takes responsibility for Asset Performance Management, offering clients innovative solutions through the optimisation of existing assets, to provide improvements and opportunities for the water utilities from a holistic water cycle approach.

Steve Slessor, managing director for Galliford Try Environment commented: “Our Environment Business is one of the biggest players in the water sector, working for 10 out the 11 major water and sewage companies in the UK. As our clients look to invest in ageing asset base, where existing plant and equipment is in need of investment through building, refurbishing and maintaining assets, we are well positioned to serve their needs.

“Building on this, we are delighted to appoint Mariana, with her wealth of experience to this key new role within our business, driving us forward in this area and underpinning our unique position to provide a full ‘Source to Sea’ approach.”

Mariana added: “I am delighted to be appointed to lead this area at such an exciting time as Galliford Try rapidly moves into markets adjacent to our traditional Design & Build space. We enable clients to optimise the performance of their assets thus potentially reducing OPEX, realising their objectives of a lower carbon footprint and reducing pressure on CAPEX interventions. I look forward to working with the team to grow our activities as a vital partner of our water clients.”
