For LGBT+ History Month 2027, RIBA has invited members to submit work for a new exhibition celebrating the breadth and quality of architecture designed by LGBTQIA+ practitioners
RIBA is looking for work from LGBTQ+ architects at all stages of their careers: from Part 2 students to emerging practitioners and small practices, established architects, and larger studios.
Their work will form an exhibition called Proud Architecture, which will showcase the people and projects behind the places we live, work, learn, and gather.
Candidates are asked to submit their work by 5pm on Friday, 27 November through a form that can be accessed here.
Showcasing the everyday work of LGBTQ+ architects
The exhibition will focus on architecture, not identity. RIBA is not looking for projects that necessarily explore LGBTQIA+ themes, communities, or issues.
Instead, the organisation wants to showcase the everyday work of LGBTQIA+ architects: housing, schools, workplaces, healthcare, cultural buildings, public spaces, retrofit, restoration, and more.
Overall, the exhibition will show the spectrum of work produced across the profession and make the architects behind it visible.
What will the Proud Architecture exhibition feature?
Proud architecture aims to celebrate LGBTQIA+ architects through the buildings and projects they work on and deliver every day.
It brings together drawings, photography, models, and other materials to explore the diversity of contemporary architectural practice.
It will not seek to define what “LGBTQIA+ architecture” looks like. Instead, it will ask a simpler question: What does the architecture of LGBTQ+ architects look like?
The exhibition will form part of our LGBT+ History Month programme in February 2027, with opportunities for selected architects to contribute to associated talks, events, and digital content.
Winning architects will be selected early in the New Year
Selected work will be announced by 8 January 2027 and will be considered for inclusion in the physical exhibition RIBA aims to launch during LGBT+ History Month 2027.
Depending on the project, RIBA may request additional material such as high-resolution footage, models, or sketchbooks. Selected architects may also be invited to take part in a short interview or provide additional information about their work and career.
Selected projects will also feature in RIBA digital content online and on social channels.
