Modular Building Institute: The voice of commercial modular construction

70
Commercial Modular Construction,

Founded in 1983, the Modular Building Institute (MBI) is the international non-profit trade association serving modular construction

Our 400+ members represent two distinct segments of the modular industry: permanent modular construction and relocatable buildings.

OUR MISSION

As the Voice of Commercial Modular Construction™, it is MBI’s mission to expand the use of offsite construction through innovative construction practices, outreach and education to the construction community and customers, and recognition of high quality modular designs and facilities.

EUROPEAN COUNCIL

MBI’s European Advisory Council offers additional leadership opportunities for members, serves as an advisory board to MBI to ensure we are understanding our members’ needs in Europe, and serves as a forum for best practices and networking activities to be delivered more effectively by MBI.

WHAT IS MODULAR CONSTRUCTION?

Modular construction is a process in which a building is constructed offsite, under controlled plant conditions, using the same materials and designing to the same codes and standards as conventionally-built facilities – but in about half the time. Buildings are produced in “modules” that when put together on site, reflect the identical design intent and specifications of the most sophisticated site-built facility – without compromise.

WHY BUILD MODULAR? Commercial Modular Construction,

According to a 2020 survey by Dodge Data & Analytics, seven specific aspects of construction project delivery have been positively impacted through the use of modular construction. At the top of the list were improvements to productivity, quality, and schedule certainty.

Beside these benefits, modular construction projects also boast a higher ROI, less material waste during construction, and fewer delays. In fact, according to a National Institute of Building Sciences report, “Compared with traditional construction, permanent modular construction projects have statistically fewer change orders, which makes the design/ construction process go smoother and faster.”

HOW MBI CAN HELP YOUR COMPANY

Maybe it’s a key contact we can introduce to you or a best practice you can learn at one of our events. Whatever your need, MBI is dedicated to helping your company realize all the benefits of modular construction.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

MBI recently spoke with Krzysztof Droszcz, co-founder of iQ. Based in Gdansk, Poland, iQ Module also has a facility in Germany. Among other things, Droszcz spoke to MBI about:

THE EUROPEAN MARKET

“There is tremendous potential for modular construction in Europe. On the one hand, there is a lot of tradition on our continent; but on the other hand, there is a huge need for new technologies.

“The market is beginning to realise that modular technology is a solution…yet still there is a lot to do to encourage clients to think modular.”

MBI MEMBERSHIP

“We were looking for a wider view on the modular market and its possibilities. Entering the US market as a member of MBI gives us much more contact with fellow modular producers, designers, and specialists so we can get involved in the global modular market.

“Another great thing about membership is getting to meet industry pioneers, experienced investors, and architects with whom we want to work.

“As we expand outside of Europe, we’re seeking to be a part of a global modular family. Being an MBI member is proving to be a great value for us.”

FULL INTERVIEW COMING SOON

The complete interview with Krzysztof Droszcz will be featured in the September/October edition of MBI’s Modular Advantage magazine.
