Bouygues UK has signed a partnership with Airlite to use its air-purifying paint to improve sustainable environmental performance and air quality

Bouygues Construction UK has signed a partnership agreement with air-purifying paint provider, Airlite for the next three years.

Airlite is an innovative and environmentally friendly air-purifying paint that mimics nature, actively purifying the air by attacking and neutralising pollutants and microbes, providing a cost-efficient solution for improved air quality when compared to green or living walls.

The paint comes in 180 colours – with a colour matching and bespoke colour service available – and can be applied on any typical surface inside and outside to eliminate 99.9% of bacteria and mould, reduce air pollution by 88.8% and neutralise odours.

Matching Up programme

Bouygues global open-innovation programme, Matching Up, identified the benefits of Airlite in 2019.

Each year, the Matching Up programme focuses on a different theme, reflecting a specific market sector in which the group operates. In 2019, the theme was ‘the campus of tomorrow’, with start-ups and SMEs invited to put forward products, projects and ideas to innovate and transform the way education spaces are designed, constructed and managed.

Identifying AM Technology’s Airlite product early on in the Matching Up programme as having the potential to maximise air quality and offer safer surfaces across the company’s market sectors, Airlite was trialled on an existing project where air quality was a key concern.

To gain meaningful insight to the effectiveness of the product, over 86,000 readings were taken over a period of one month.

The results found Airlite to significantly reduce toxic nitrogen dioxide (NO2), VOCs (volatile organic compounds), COfootprint and eliminate 99.9% of bacteria on surfaces, all whilst producing no toxic or flammable waste as associated with regular paints.

The chair of Bouygues Construction UK, Fabienne Viala, and the CEO of Airlite, Antonio Cianci, undertook a virtual signing of a three-year contract on 12 June.
