BAM Construction has been appointed as the main contractor for the Bedworth Physical Activity Hub, operating under a pre-construction services agreement (PCSA)

The Bedworth Physical Activity Hub will feature:

  • a new 25-metre, eight lane community pool
  • a learner pool with moveable floor
  • four-court sports hall
  • 120 station fitness centre
  • a 3G sports pitch
  • a new ‘all wheels’ skate park
  • a learn to ride facility

Construction work will be planned around the existing leisure centre’s operation and public activities in Miners’ Welfare Park. Beginning this year, the construction of the Bedworth Physical Activity Hub will be completed by 2024.

The project was procured via the Procure Partnerships Framework, enabling access to a range of wet leisure centre contractors most suitable to deliver such a scheme. The consultant team includes Hadron Consulting, GT3 Architects and Faithful & Gould.

BAM will collaborate with the Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council to deliver the Physical Activity Hub

The BAM team will also deliver facilities management, design and property development, and will be working alongside the Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council’s Project Team to develop the design, technical details and logistics – this includes planning for net zero carbon.

The Council has the option to enter a building contract for the delivery of the full circa £24.7 million project upon completion of the pre-construction services. This would include ground investigation surveys and an extensive ‘cut and fill’ exercise

Councillor Sue Markham, portfolio holder for public services at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council commented:

“I am delighted that we have appointed BAM as our contractors for this project. They are a hugely experienced company that have delivered a range of projects with a focus on sustainability.

“We are really forging ahead now with our vision for the new Hub, and I can’t wait to see the plans develop further now we have BAM on board.”

The Bedworth Physical Activity Hub will give something back to the community

Regional Director of BAM Construction in the Midlands Dave Ellis said:

“Creating this £24.7m Physical Activity Hub has already established an excellent relationship with Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council.

“BAM has created over £600m of leisure facilities over the last five years alone which shows our strength and experience in this sector.

“Being a local contractor, we also understand about working closely with the communities around us to create strong social value programmes and we will use our time wisely to give something back to those around us.”
