Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure has been selected by Extra MSA Group to deliver the main buildings for a £60 million Motorway Service Area at Leeds Skelton Lake services off Junction 45 of the M1

The construction group will build a food court building and a 100-bedroom hotel, together with parking areas and onsite roadways.

The exterior design of the central building will feature exposed long span glulam timber beams with a ‘living green roof’ to blend in with the surroudning landscape.

Inside will house a variety of popular high-quality food and beverage brands, together with ancillary retail outlets, a wildlife visitor centre, business centre and dedicated space for community activities.

An upper-floor viewing deck will overlook Skelton Lake and the surrounding landscape.

The work will recruit around 400 jobs of which will be approximately 300 new full-time jobs when the services is operational.

Morgan Sindall’s managing director for the North, Barry Roberts, said: “We are really excited about working with Extra to deliver this phase of the project, realising the vision that has been set out by our customer.

“This is a major investment for the region and we will do everything we can to support and work closely with Extra to create jobs and offer opportunities to local people and companies during the construction works.”

The build is expected to significantly improve road safety for this section of the Motorway Network, by completing the network of MSAs to serve this section of the National Motorway Network.

The project is due to start onsite in Autumn 2018, with the hopes of being completed for Summer 2019.

The company has also recently secured an £18.8 million contract to expand Lexden Springs School in Essex which hopes to increase Lexden Springs’ capacity from 120 to 200 pupils.

The project is currently underway and is funded by Essex County Council, with an expected delivery date of September 2019.
