The Planning Portal has won a contract to manage online planning applications for all 25 Welsh local planning authorities until 2021

Online planning applications in Wales will be handled by the Planning Portal. The organisation won a bid to manage services for all 25 local planning authorities until 2021 after a successful bid for the project was won.

This new contract will see the organisation provide a bi-lingual online planning applications service.

MD of the Planning Portal Sarah Chilcott said: “The fact that the Planning Portal will provide a comprehensive service across England and Wales is fantastic news for us and our customers.

“Not only does this mean consistency and efficiency for applicants, agents and local authorities, but it provides a national platform for us to deliver additional services to Wales outside of this contract in our mission to continue to transform planning and building.”

Simplifying the planning process

The Planning Portal launched in 2002 and aims to simplify the planning and building control sector for all involved in the process.

Owned by PortalPlanQuest, it is a joint venture between the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) and TerraQuest Ltd. It currently processes around 90 per cent of all planning applications, seeing approximately 2,000 per day.

Building control submission service

The Planning Portal recently also launched a national building control submission service. On this, Chilcott said: “Our recent launch of a national building control submission service is just one example of this.

“Over a third of LABCs across England have already signed up to the service, with more coming on board every week.”
