New plans have been submitted to convert a large York property located close to the railway station into residential accommodation and offices…

Property investment company Palace Capital has submitted a planning application to the City of York Council. The firm owns Hudson House, which it acquired in 2013.

The building was constructed in 1965. It boasts 103,000 sq ft of office space. Around 55,000 sq ft is short term tenancies. The rest of the space has been empty for some time.

The planning application is seeking approval to change 60,000 sq ft into 82 studio, one, and two bedroom apartments. The remaining 37,000 sq ft will be used as refurbished offices.

Discussions between the City of York Council and Palace Capital have been ongoing for some time. It is hoped approval for the scheme could be granted by the autumn.

Chief Executive of Palace Capital Neil Sinclair said: “This is an exciting opportunity both for the City of York and Palace Capital. It demonstrates the active management that is ongoing right across the Company’s portfolio.

“York is a fast growing city with a strong residential market and is increasingly attractive to major office occupiers.

“For example, Hiscox, the large insurance company, is due to complete its new 50,000 sq ft office building shortly.”
