Interserve Construction has delivered a new ward at Royal Preston Hospital to support Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s response to the coronavirus crisis

The contract follows Interserve Construction’s recent success in delivering the new NHS Nightingale Hospital Birmingham to the NHS to treat Covid-19 patients and the installation of a suite of decontamination units at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

The new 28-bed ward will give Royal Preston Hospital the extra capacity to treat Covid-19 patients during the pandemic.

Royal Preston Hospital provides a full range of hospital services and has around 700 beds, operating theatre complex, outpatient suites and education facilities.

Antibody testing facility

Most recently, the hospital has become a flagship site with a new ground-breaking Covid-19 antibody testing facility. This test will tell the medical team whether or not a person has had the disease and give them an understanding of how many of the population have actually been infected. This will assist in the nationwide track and trace initiative.

Phil Shaw, divisional director, Interserve Construction, said: “The Interserve team at the Royal Preston Hospital have done an outstanding job in turning this project around at short notice demonstrating our expertise and capabilities in supporting the NHS.

“As a long-term contractor to the NHS, under several framework agreements, we bring considerable experience and wide-ranging capabilities to deliver even at the shortest notice as witnessed by our work in Preston and at Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.”
