WSP appoints Stefano Cammelli to enhance wind engineering

Engineering and professional services consultancy, WSP, has appointed Stefano Cammelli to enhance the wind engineering service and expertise within the Property and Building unit

Following over 15 years of experience in one of the top wind engineering consultancy in the world, BMT, Stefano Cammelli joins WSP as Technical Director. He will bring a history of expertise from the 1,500 plus consultancy projects worldwide he has so far worked on.

Stefano Cammelli has an active professional involvement in the global wind engineering community, is a regular presenter at international conferences and has more than 50 publications that have so far been issued in technical and industry journals.

He said: “With structures becoming taller, longer, slenderer and lighter, ‘wind’ very often takes centre stage in design.

“I am super excited about my new role. I look forward to be taking ‘wind engineering’ to the next level and positively contribute to the success of some of the most exciting projects I am sure WSP will deliver in the years ahead”.

Mark O’Connor, Head of Specialists at WSP added: “In recent years, we have had a number of projects where wind has become a significant issue for clients.

“Stefano brings a much-needed enhancement to our capabilities in this area – not only in his extensive knowledge of wind tunnel testing but also the complementary skills he brings to our growing CFD capability in this area. This will ensure that clients get the best independent advice for their particular project.”

A boost for building services

Stefano Cammelli, wind engineering, Peter Brickell,WSP also welcomes Peter Brickell who re-joins the business as Director in MEP. Peter Brickell will bring his 18-month experience from a previous consultancy where he worked as the lead on a global digital transformation initiative.

Brickell said: “We are heading into a period of great change in our industry and I’m excited to be able to work with WSP once again on projects such as 150 Bishopsgate and 1 Undershaft.

“With new digital ways of working and advances in the technologies going into the buildings we design and I believe WSP has the best team in the industry to work with these changes to create something really special in the future.”
