Interserve has been awarded a £3.8m contract from Suffolk County Council, through the Eastern Highways Alliance Framework 2, to create two new roundabouts on the A140 located to the north and south of Eye Airfield in Suffolk

The proposed scheme will provide improved access from the existing A140 to the old airfield site which is being re-developed as the Mid-Suffolk Business Park.

The scheme comprises the provision of two new roundabouts which will be located to the north and south of Eye Airfield along the A140. A new link road will be constructed between the north roundabout with a priority junction on the B1077 between Brome and Eye.

Interserve will deliver improvements to the A119 roundabout, including a segregated left turn lane for eastbound traffic, new street lighting and a single carriageway off-line realignment of the existing A602 carriageway.

Second highways contract this month

This contract follows the appointment to deliver a £15.6m contract for Hertfordshire County Council, through the Eastern Highways Alliance Framework 2, to upgrade a section of the A602 in Hertfordshire.

Wayne Howell, divisional director, Interserve said: “We are delighted to have secured this highways contract complementing recent contract awards in Thurrock and Hertfordshire.

“Our work in Suffolk on the A140 will greatly improve access around this part of Suffolk and the successful development of the Mid-Suffolk Business Park and is a great showcase for our capabilities in delivering critical infrastructure in the UK.”

Interserve expects to start work shortly with completion due in December this year.
