A £32m contract to build a three-tower residential development in Liverpool city centre has been signed by Balfour Beatty.

Construction company Balfour Beatty will deliver 342 apartments across the three towers, which will stand at 12, 10, and 8 storeys.

The Baltic Triangle scheme, which is being carried out on behalf of developer Neptune Investments, will also include the creation of commercial space, a gym, and underground car parking for 358 vehicles. The development will also employ a concierge.

The scheme fell victim to the financial crisis and saw work grind to a halt in 2007. Original backer, Windsor Developments, went down with debts of £46m. Around £19m of this figure was owed to the original contractor Laing O’Rourke.

Balfour Beatty will continue construction on a building, which was started before the project collapsed. This work will include strengthening the existing basement. Pre-cast wall panels will help to reduce delivery times and costs.

Apprentices will be recruited to the project and Balfour will also utilise links with Liverpool John Moores University to provide opportunities for students.

Managing Director for Northern Major Projects at Balfour Beatty, Jon Adams, said: “Balfour Beatty has extensive experience in delivering high-end residential schemes and of working in Liverpool, where we have recently delivered the Liverpool One and Aloft Hotel developments.

“We have a fifteen year relationship with Neptune Investments and we look forward to working with them to deliver this exciting new £32m development in the heart of the Liverpool docklands.”
