Bouygues UK has won a contract to design and build the first phase of the new Ebury Bridge Estate in Pimlico for Westminster City Council
As part of the council’s ambition to reach zero carbon by 2040, the council and Bouygues UK will work together to meet sustainable development accreditations for the BREEAM communities excellent standard as well as the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
The Ebury Bridge Estate plan
The new Ebury Bridge Estate will create around 758 high-quality, energy-efficient homes, including at least 386 affordable homes, which is the largest development of new council and affordable homes in the south of Westminster in a generation.
Whilst delivering much needed new homes, Bouygues UK will also bring wide-ranging investment in jobs, community development and health programmes to benefit local people in Westminster.
The construction company is already working in Westminster to deliver new homes, a sports hall and a community space as part of the council’s Church Street regeneration programme.
Bouygues UK is due to start work later this year and, subject to planning approval, commence building new homes in 2021.
Delivering a sustainable development
Councillor Melvyn Caplan, deputy leader and cabinet member for finance, property and regeneration for Westminster City Council, said: “In partnership with the residents of Ebury Bridge, we’ve taken forward the renewal of the estate and the signing of this contract is a significant milestone in this journey.
“The much needed new homes built as part of the scheme will contribute to our target of 1,850 homes over the next three years.
“We want the Ebury Bridge renewal scheme to create a new high standard in estate regeneration and we’re looking forward to working with Bouygues UK in making this vision a reality.”
