historic railways, HRE

Dyer & Butler, a part of M Group Services, has been appointed as a delivery partner on Highways England’s Historic Railways Estate (HRE) framework

The HRE framework is tendered in separate Lots, with Dyer & Butler awarded the contract for the Minor Works, South Lot (typically Package Orders less than £200,00).

This lot includes the clearance of vegetation, masonry brickwork and stonework repairs, and pointing stabilisation of loose masonry, providing safety and/or security fencing and reactive response to unauthorised access.

The HRE framework relates to the civil engineering repair, maintenance and associated services of historical structural and land assets related to former railways which are now closed.

Highways England is responsible for approximately 4,000 non-operational railway structures including legacy bridges, viaducts, tunnels, retaining walls, culverts and similar properties associated with closed railways throughout England, Scotland and Wales.

Supporting Highways England

Dyer & Butler rail director, Chris Darlow, said: “We are delighted to have secured this framework and we look forward to working alongside the Highways England HRE team to conduct these important annual examinations of former railway structures across the south.

“This programme of repair and maintenance works ensures that these former railway structures and parcels of associated land are kept in a safe condition and we look forward to supporting Highways England in this area of their operations.”
