£1bn regeneration scheme in Merton gains traction


Plans for a £1bn regeneration scheme in the London Borough of Merton have progressed with the submission of two further detailed planning applications

Clarion Housing Group has submitted Reserved Matters applications to Merton Council for the next phases of its regeneration scheme at High Path in South Wimbledon and Ravensbury and Eastfields in Mitcham.

Last year, Clarion was granted outline planning permission to deliver 2,800 new high-quality homes, including 740 social rented homes, and 9,000sqm of commercial and community space across the three neighbourhoods.

Following the council’s decision, Clarion has been working closely with residents and the local community to enhance the regeneration scheme designs, including the layouts of the homes and landscaping.

Paul Quinn, director of Merton Regeneration at Clarion said: “The submission of these planning applications demonstrates our continued commitment to the transformation of Merton.

“Our regeneration proposals put residents first and provide better community and green spaces and links to local areas. The project will also contribute to the prosperity, health and wellbeing of the local community through job creation and opportunities for local businesses.”

Work is currently underway to build the first 21 new homes on the site of the disused garages at Ravensbury and 134 homes on land not currently used for housing at High Path. Every home is earmarked for existing residents.

The decision to regenerate these neighbourhoods was made after taking into account the standard of some existing homes, levels of overcrowding and the findings of an independent residents’ survey.
