ENGIE has won a £28m contract with Sanctuary to deliver 150 new homes in Witham, Essex

The properties at the Southfields site – located on Conrad Road – will comprise apartments, bungalows and two to five-bedroomed houses, and will be available for sale, shared ownership and affordable rent.

In addition, the local community is set to benefit further through Sanctuary’s MORE! programme.

The project will also feature a designated walking route around a wetland area.

The initiative sees Sanctuary working alongside development partners to support important community projects in the areas where homes are being constructed, by donating skills, resources and equipment.

At Southfields, the first community venture has already taken place through a donation of computer equipment to a local school.

Support will also be focused on recruiting local labour and creating apprenticeship opportunities.

The properties will be delivered in five phases between the end of 2022 and summer 2023.

Designed to fit into the idyllic location

Sarah Brind, Sanctuary’s head of development – south, said: “Southfields is a major new housing development which is set to bring a host of opportunities to local people in Essex, including new homes, employment prospects and support for community projects.

“The homes have been sympathetically designed to fit in with the idyllic location, and we’re delighted to be working with ENGIE on this housing project.”

Dan Germann, managing director for ENGIE’s Places and Communities South, added: “Sanctuary has been a key partner for us for many years, so we are thrilled to be working with them once again and helping to bring this much anticipated scheme to life.”
