Seymour Whyte, a Vinci Construction subsidiary, has been appointed to deliver a new M12 motorway construction project in Sydney

Seymour Whyte has been appointed by the NSW Government to build the central section of the M12 motorway construction project.

Motorway linking to Western Sydney International Airport

It will link the future Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport to the motorway network in the Sydney area.

The contract, worth AUD 373 million (€255 million), includes the construction of 7.5km of 2×2 lanes, 11 bridges, cycle and pedestrian paths, networks, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and green spaces.

Over 52,000 vehicles daily are expected to use the new road infrastructure.

The project is targeting an “Excellent” sustainability rating

95% of the excavated material will be reused/recycled as well as 40% of aggregates for the sub-base layers, use of water on site will be minimised. Seymour Whyte is targeting an “Excellent” sustainability rating from the Australian Infrastructure Sustainability Council.

Construction is due to start in mid-2022 with completion expected by the end of 2025 before Western Sydney International Airport opens in 2026.

Creation of 760 jobs across Sydney

760 jobs will be created through the project, providing opportunities for young workers, trainees, First Nations People and people from sectors affected by the Covid-19 health crisis.

Western Sydney Airport’s landside civil and building works

Seymour Whyte is also delivering the Western Sydney Airport’s landside civil and building works, including the integration of the new M12 motorway and the airport’s two metro stations.
