Kier Property has achieved planning permission for the next phase at its Arena Central development in Birmingham

The scheme known as 5 Centenary Square (5CS) is the third office block to be developed at Kier Property’s city centre ‘Arena Central’ location.

Birmingham City Council’s planning committee voted unanimously to award planning consent to the design, which was by Make Architects’.

The arena will include just over 200,000ft² of total lettable office space and will include dedicated car parking spaces and 160 cycling spaces.

The ten-storey building will be part of the wider, mixed-use scheme to be built on the site in Broad Street where current occupiers include HSBC UK and HMRC, which is currently being fitted-out.

An important part of the city’s regeneration

Mark Robinson, director at Kier Property, said: “We are pleased to achieve this significant milestone having revised our original plans to include an extra storey for offices and it’s great we’re now able to offer just over 200,000ft² of much-needed total lettable office space in the centre of Birmingham.”

Greg Willis at Make Architects, added: “With the changes on Broad Street to accommodate the new tram network and the recent overhaul of Centenary Square, this development will finally complete the frontage onto the square, with a distinctive façade that pays homage to its heritage neighbours.

“It’s an important part of the masterplan, drawing people in and through the site which was formerly inaccessible as the old ATV studios and we welcome the commitment by Kier and BCC to this important part of the city’s regeneration.”

The project is expected to commence on site in the third quarter of 2021.
