Kier has been appointed to deliver Braintree District Council’s £14.7m enterprise centre, to be based at the new Horizon 120 Business and Innovation Park near Great Notley

Kier’s appointment to deliver the enterprise centre marks the second project it is delivering for Braintree District Council, after its appointment to deliver the £30m Victoria Square regeneration scheme.

As part of the mixed-use scheme, Kier is delivering 35 new homes, a ‘Livewell’ hub – which will provide up to 20,000 residents with access to a range of health services, pharmacy, 70-bed Travelodge, new bus interchange, a café/restaurant overlooking a new public realm and a twin-level car park.

The three-storey centre will offer shared meeting rooms, flexible workspaces, conference and training facilities, as well as offices for smaller businesses.

The modern facility has been designed to be built to BREEAM Excellent standards and it will be highly energy efficient when in use.

Works to start on site imminently and will be completed by summer 2022.

New facilities and employment opportunities

Mark Dady, managing director at Kier Regional Building Eastern, said: “We’re extremely pleased to have been appointed to deliver this scheme.

“The sustainable design of the building highlights how we can help our clients achieve their sustainability aims, through the projects we deliver.

“Our appointment to this scheme follows the ongoing success of our Victoria Square Regeneration project which is due to complete later this year. Both projects will greatly benefit Braintree by providing new facilities and employment opportunities for the community.”

Dominic Collins, corporate director of growth at Braintree District Council, added: “The appointment of the main contractor is a major step forward for this project.

“Kier’s experience will help us create a modern and eco-friendly building that will generate opportunities for small businesses and create hundreds of jobs for local residents. We look forward to work starting on site imminently.”
