International construction contractor, Multiplex, has been selected to deliver The Broadway development in Westminster, following a nine-month single-stage competitive tender process for the £400m design and build contract

The Broadway, which secured planning consent in 2016, is set to deliver a new vibrant destination in the heart of Westminster, introducing a 1.72 acre mixed-use development comprising 268 apartments, 142,000 sq ft of commercial and retail accommodation, public realm and a new thoroughfare linking Victoria Street with St James’s Park tube station. Located at the former Metropolitan Police headquarters, the scheme’s six architecturally striking towers designed by Squire + Partners, will create a new vibrant commercial and cultural quarter. The development will provide unrivalled views of The Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, St James’s Park, Horse Guards Parade and Green Park.

David Harman, Development Director of The Broadway for Northacre said: “We are delighted to announce the selection of Multiplex as our preferred main contractor to deliver this landmark development in Central London. This is a major milestone for the project and demonstrates our commitment to delivering a world-class, vibrant destination located in one of the capital’s most exciting areas.

“We look forward to working alongside Multiplex to realise our vision and see them forge ahead with construction. To date, all milestones have been delivered ahead of programme, from securing planning consent in 2016, completing demolition of the existing 1960’s 22 storey building in 2017 and more recently finishing the piling phase in June 2018.”

Multiplex is due to take possession of the site in January 2019 and the project is expected to be completed in December 2021.

Ashley Muldoon, CEO of Multiplex added: “We are incredibly proud to have been selected by Northacre to assist them in transforming this key part of Westminster. Our role is to support them and their professional teams in delivering their vision for the project.”

Over the last few years, Westminster has been transformed into a lively commercial and retail centre, supported by extensive investment and redevelopment. As London’s newest landmark destination for design, fashion and high-quality living, The Broadway is set to affirm SW1’s Prime Central London status.

Every Northacre-managed Prime Central London scheme has delivered a substantial uplift in residential values achieved for the area.  In the last 30 years, Northacre has delivered more than 630 properties in London’s most sought-after addresses with a value of more than £1.25bn. Northacre currently has a strong development pipeline in place with a predicted Gross Development value of £2bn.
